The Advocates Act, 1961 was enacted on 19th
May, 1961 in order to amend and consolidate
the law relating to legal practitioners and
to provide for the constitution of
autonomous Bar Councils one for whole India
and one for each State.
Consequently, the Orissa State Bar Council
as a Statutory Body came into existence in
the year 1961. It has 26 Members including
the Advocate General as the Ex-Officio
Member.
Mode of Election
Election to the Bar Council shall be by
single transferable vote.After completion of
election the Council is constituted
consisting of 25 elected members and
Advocate General as Ex Officio Member.
Thereafter elected Members shall elect from
amongst them one Chairman, Vice –Chairman
and Member- representative to the Bar
Council of India.
Term of Office:
Term of the Office of elected Members of
Orissa State Bar Council shall be 5 years
from the date of publication of the result. |
