Function of the State Bar Council

Enrolment of law Graduates on its roll;
Enforcement of discipline and ethics for the members of the profession.
Right to professional and interest of the Advocates;
Promoting growth of Bar Association for the purpose of effective implementation of the Welfare scheme.
Promoting and supporting law reform;
Conducting Seminars on legal topics, publication of journals and papers on legal interest;
Organising legal aid to the poor;
To visit and inspect the Universities in accordance with direction given by Bar Council of India under Cl.I Sub-Section -I of Sec. 7.

Further the State Bar Council may constitute one or more funds in the prescribed manner for the purpose of providing financial assistance to the indigent deceased and other advocates
Giving legal aid and advice
Establishment of law library etc.

The Orissa State Bar Council has the following standing committees .

  • 2. Enrolment Committee
  • 3. Finance Committee
  • 4. Welfare Committee
  • 5. Rules Committee
  • 6. Welfare Committee of Bar Council of India
  • 7. Law Reforms Committee
  • 8. Pension Committee

Besides as stipulated U/s 9 of Advocates Act,1961 the State Bar Council shall constitute one or more Disciplinary Committees. Each Committee consists of 3 Members . At present the Council has constituted six Disciplinary Committees for looking into the complaints against the Advocates alleged to have been involved in the professional misconduct.
